Ls2 & 5.3 heads better?
Ls2 & 5.3 heads better? I've got two sets of heads. One is 317 ls2 and 5.3 heads. Which heads would give the best gains?
I'm leaving the stock bottom end and not planning to make but a couple passes. My Ws6 has the track set up. I just want a respectable daily.
Cam selection will be on the mild side with all boltons. Thinking about no more than 224/224.

LS2 heads would be a 243 casting. Basically LS6 heads without the good valves so your 317's aren't LS2 heads.

Thanks, I know the valves are the main difference 317 vs 243 but from what I have read the 317s are also on 6.0s.
Still though to be clear I'm going to 2.02/1.60 on which ever head I go with. I understand that the chamber design is smaller on the 5.3s and flow better for tq.
Could I go with a 2.05 on that 5.3 head?
If all the valves were the same on each head which one is worth it?

I have never heard of 317 on an LS2. They may be on other 6.0's, I dont know. As far as I know (somebody please correct me if I'm wrong cause I dont like to give out bogus info) any head on a 6.0 LS2 are going to be 243 castings with solid valves. What are the casting number on the 5.3 heads?
317 heads were used on 6.0 trucks and suvs.Similar to 243s but with a big combustion chamber= lower compressoin.317s are used by the FI guys but to use them natually aspirated you would have to mill them just to keep your stock compression.BTW you can put 2.05 valves in a 5.3 head.
