Default Head Porting Question????

im gonna try and port my heads but before i start i want to know everything ther is to know.......i got just about all the info i can get except for how to mark the intake ports. everything i read says use the intake gasket....well kinda hard to do that with a ls1....what have you guys done?

You kind of need a flow bench. So you can port each cylinder and then flow them to make sure they're consistently performing like you intended.

As mentioned a flow bench helps in knowing if your helping or making them worse BUT...
If your just looking to experimentnand see if you can come up with a little more power for the cheap cheap then I say go for it, it will be good learning experience. Copy a few pics of some really nice port jobs and try to match them. You can then take the heads somewhere to be flowed to see how you did, do one port and then have it check and then copy that for the rest of them. If you pick up 10hp on your own you'll be happy. But know that you will need to pay for a headgasket and some fluids when you do the swap so if all you pick up is 10hp it might not be cost effective, but you gain free education and experience for the next set.

I made a template of the intake. Best advice would be leave the floor alone

I have not tried it on a LS motor. The standard method is to make a scribe mark on the exposed indents on the intake manifold that show the vertical and horizontal position of the ports. Mount the intake on the motor with the heads installed. Transfer those scribe marks to the heads. Very precise but time consuming
