its a great cam, i have a yank ss4000 stall as well. its a little hard to cruise if u are under 2000rpms, its bucks a little bit. i went 12.2 @115 on a street tires, wit no first gear. i love the cam its sounds awesome and is pretty nasty when u get on it. good luck. u wont be disappointed.

i know this is a huge cam and makes its peak power over 6k rpm. but how is it a little lower, like around 3800 and up?

Default ms4 cam

I have a custom grind that is nearly identical to the ms4 cam. It lives between 4-7000 rpm. It idles rough but really sings when it comes on. I really like this cam in my car because it is built for roadcourse racing...where you have it above 4500 RPM all day long. My car is a Porsche 914 (highly modified with full cage and wide flairs & tires, etc. It weighs only 2400lbs...so it never feels like it is going to fall on it's face below 4000 RPM. The original engine was a flat four aircooled VW/Porsche 2.0 motor. My engine puts out 424 RWHP. You will love this cam!

what i ment by no first gear, was absolutely no traction in first. i cut a 2.0 60foot with my 12.2 run. with my 4000 stall the car really doesnt start moving hard till 4000.

If you're going with a 4000+ rpm stall torque converter you'll never see anything below ~4500rpm at full throttle. With stock compression and your relatively tall gears it's going to feel REALLY soft down low, both due to the cam and converter. The performance above 5000rpm will be awesome!

What are your expectations from this setup?

I just installed a MS3 on a 114, it is nice and drives fine. I'm untuned and haven't gotten on it yet, but does fine with no bogging in 6th gear for me. Driving around @1500rpm with no problem unlike what alot of people have said. Still need to be tuned too. i know it's not a MS4, but it's got the same exhaust lobe/intake is a little bigger. Love it so for what I've seen of it.

well im still on stock heads so im afraid thats going to hurt me. i have 3.23 gears now but had the stall built for 3.73 and will be doing those very soon. well like my sig says i hit a 12.6 w/ just bolt-on's but that was with a .50 reaction and a drag car went right before me so there was rubber on the track that i hooked up on. but im thinking that if i hooked up i could get mid-higher 11's. am i on target or off pretty bad?

Not to sound like a dick, but shouldn't you have done a bit more research about this cam before buying it? You've got it now and if you decide to change your mind it's going end up costing you a lot more.

heres my 2 cents........ i'm an LSx junkie.... i have a '01 Z M6, built bottomend, trickflow 215's, MS4 cam, and all the bolt ons, it has 4.11's in the back....... i love and hate it..... 4-7k is nasty, but its a joke under 2500 and driving in town leaves alot to be desired.... i think if i was doing it i would go just slightly smaller to pick up some torque and pass on 10-15hp on the topend, especially with 3.73s............... i've done several cams in LSx cars, but everybody has there preferences

true that man!!! remember bigger isnt better!!! your running a stock tranny, and high RPM's will kill these trannies and with the MS4 youll only make the power at high rpm's..and its not gonna be useful on the street.

well i did my homework on it and talked to the guys at tsp. but what i was talking about, is reading other peoples post about different cams. seems like not a lot of like the ms4 to much because of its range. but with a 4k stall i dont seem why that would be a problem. but on the other hand i have never had a cam this big or a stall period.

You may be able to bail on it now and cut your losses a lot shorter and just go with a more moderate cam than the MS4. If you put the cam in and decide you hate it you will be taking a lot larger $$ loss than if you sold it now.

You may want to consider talking to Patrick G and have him spec out one for your exact application. He did one for mine and was dead on as he is with so many others on this forum. You should check out the dyno section and look at the dyno charts for that cam. I'm sure there is a bunch of people with a similar setup to what you have and that will give you a good idea of what you're going to be in for.
