Default Valve seal question

I put the patriot golds in today on my 2001 ta. I thought I did everything correct but I missed something...

The stock seats and valve seals are one-piece, the golds are 2.
So...using my 1 1/2 cents I just pushed the seal down till it was snug on the valve stem. All looked good. Started the car up and drove to the gas station and it started smoking BAD. I wasnt spitting oil tho my low oil light came on, so I had my buddy pick me and my car up.

Im thinking that the seals need to be lower but I cant push them any lower under my own power. Should I push them down with a deep well socket till they are as low on the valve stem as they can go? If not what hight should they be at off the new spring seat?

Or is this not my problem and I total missed something?

patriot golds should be a DUAL valve spring, and should have cam with a locator/seat and a seperate valve seal.(2 pc. design)

JPH-I know they are 2 parts, The stock ones were all 1 part.

01ssreda4-Is this the way its done? Just put a small deep socket and whack away at it or is there a clearance I need to set them at like the 98-99 LS1 motors?

Yes, you need to push them farther down than what you did. Do go "whacking" away, but use a small hammer and socket. Quote taken from this site http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=23 . You did read this before tearing into the rebuild right?

Before you install the seal, smear some motor oil onto the valve stem and onto the black valve guide. Place the seal onto the top of the valve guide, take a deep 12 point 10mm or 12mm socket and put it over the valve so that it's up against the valve seal, and tap it with a hammer until it seats solidly. There will be a gap between the seal and the seat, that is okay!
