Default What RPM to shift at with new cam???

I have an MTI X1 cam going in and a dyno tune happening...what should I have Mark set my Rpm Limiter to????
I've also got Manley springs and hardened pushrods...and adouble roller chain and slp oil pump.(the MTI Package)

I just want to know how high I will be able to wrap the engine???? what can it all handle safely???

I will be soon buying an RMP guage too...any suggestions....

I would use the dyno chart to see where the power starts dropping off then add 200-400 rpms to get my shift point.

not a bad Idea...but wouldn't I want to shift where the Hp is at the same as when I shift to the next gear....

wouldnt I want to shift where the HP at shift point is the same in the next gear when it takes over....
meaning even if peak is at 5000 rpm(375hp).... If I shift at 6000(350hp) and the rpm change puts me below that amount(like around 3500 rpm)(300hp)....but if I take it up to 7000(325hp) and the shift takes the rpm down to the same HP(like at 4500 rpm)(325hp).....wouldnt that make better sense....
to keep the MAx HP???
I just want to know How High is still safe before valve float...and possible other engine disasters.... so when I find out the real #'s I can stay in a higher HP range all the time so the Highest RPM HP is Closer to the Lowest Rpm HP at the shift...

get it???

If you had an upgradded bottom end I would say spin it to 6800-7000. Since you have the 2000 motor (01+ got better rod bolts) I would say 6500 to play it safe.

not considering valve float and bottme end concerns, you want to maximize the area under the HP curve. Which, like said above, will probably a few hundred RPMs above peak.

Now take into considerations like valve float and the bottom end, you may want to shift at peak power just to stay a little lower in the RPM range.

i agree with a few of hte guys above, esp Ackattack's comments and the dyno is the best indicator. that cam is very proven and will peak pretty high and needs to opperate up there for peak performance. dont listen to some of these dorks (like denz on mogmhp) about not spinning the motor above 6300 rpms. that cam will probably peak around 6300 rpms and you should shift it around 6600 rpms for best performance. you will see on the dyno. some like to talk about how going over 6500 rpms will destroy your shortblock but i beg to differ (and many will on this board that ACTUALLY HAVE EXPERIENCE) with cams and going up high rpm. i have well over 300 passes with shifts all in the 6500-6800 rpm range (most in the 6700-6800 range) and countless and countless of times on the street. car runs better now than ever. you will figure it out on the dyno chart. good luck
