Default Engine finally done w/ pics

Engine is ready to go in the car now. Thanks to Texas Speed, Hughes Machine (Fallon, NV), and of course all you gurus on this site. Without you guys it wouldn't have been possible. Some pics from beginning to end.

You're not really running that rusted up knock sensor are you?

Thank guys I just hope it runs as good as it looks! I got two new knock sensors yesterday from the stealership. I also used some plumbers epoxy on the tops of the covers to keep moisture out. Pulling the engine out the top was kind of a PITA with the crank pulley on. I also had to drop the AC condenser to get the pulley to clear. I also broke the oil pressure sensor on the back of the block because I forgot about it when pulling the motor. This time when I drop it back in I'm leaving the pulley and oil pressure sensor OFF. I got a new SLP UD pulley so I will put it back on the motor when it's in the car. It will be easier to do once I hook up the tranny instead of trying to grip the flywheel and torque the bolt to 240 lb/ft while the motor is out and wanting to spin free.

Why not just drop the whole front subframe? That will save you a lot of grief.

What caused the giant eye brow in the piston?

Ding Ding winner. That's the only way I'll ever do it. It's so much easier to do especially when you have a lift.

You can even use a cherry picker to lift the body off of and onto the cradle.

Believe me if I had a lift I would have dropped it from underneath. But I'm restricted to the only options I have available which is an engine hoist. I think with a couple of buddies we shouldn't have too much of a problem getting it to go back in. If it came out then it must go back in the same way

I have seen several write-ups where an engine hoist is used to lift the body off of the engine to do the bottom-out method. If I were you, I'd drop the front subframe, bolt up the newly assembled engine, and then reinstall.

I will do some research on removing the front subframe. If I can get it all apart pretty simply then I will definitely go that route. I will probably then be able to put the engine back in by myself instead of waiting for friends to come help when they get a chance. Oh, and the eyebrow on the piston was caused by a misshift from 5th to 2nd at 65 mph
