Well in Lehmans terms a cam will have a different valve timming (Open/close) than what the manifold are designed for. Headers help in scavenging and complement the higher specs of mild t wilder cams.

Different cams will react differently with stock manifolds. the bigger the cam the worse the outcome.
Also 01\02's have better flowing stock manifolds almost similar to shorties.

I've been running the TR 224 with 114 LSA on my car with stock manifolds for a couple months now. I realize I'm going to gain more with headers (Hooker LTs on order), but I noticed a Significant increase in power over stock.

I haven't dynoed since the cam, but intend to next week and I'll post up numbers when I do. I was 328/332 before the cam, so we'll see where I end up now.

My exhaust mods include B&B Tri-flow catback and a cutout in the I-pipe with McCord power plate.

I would be interested in what gains you got.

I ran the ASA cam 226/236 .525/.525 110 lsa. I went through stock manifolds and picked up 3 tenths and 4 miles an hour. I also ran gutted cats. I was very happy with my gains. I ran a 12.7 at 115 mph on a 2.1 60'.

Even with just a cam, you will have more power than before plus a much wider rpm range. I have the TR224/114 with manifolds and it drives like a totally different car. No dyno or track results, but the exhaust sound is much more race sounding, and it peaks at 6600 rpm instead of 5400 with the stock cam. I'm planning on getting QTP headers at some point, though.
I'm with Cal on this one..... I am sure there is lots to be gained with headers, but I have ridden in both LS1 cars with headers/stock cam and ones with cam/stock manifolds and the "cam/stock manifolds" cars are definitely more powerful feeling/driving. (Through the butt-meter )

The 224/112 cam transformed my car completely and the midrange torque feel and throttle response are unbelievable. I can't wait to get the headers to see how much more I have been missing. If you are on the fence about headers or a cam and you can't do them both..... my opinion is "Do the cam!"

Vette exhaust is a Tri-Y design. Should flow better than Fbody Stock. Maybe that explains JMX's results.

I think people have been having good luck with 02 ls6 cam while runnin manifolds and cats. Do a search. Someone posted a dyno graph. It made power like stock until the upper rpms for a gain of 30hp if I remember correctly.

My input is slightly different, but my LS6 had a lot more bottom end torque before the LT's and no cats. With the manifolds/cats, it spun its rear off, now I dead hook on street tires.

I think if you do a cam and LT's you gotta have a convertor (if A4)! The bigger the cam, the more this will be the case.

So my input would be do the cam first (if it is gonna be mild), then a convertor (if A4 - didn't see sig), then LT's. Just my 2 cents.

Well, I ran two different cams on stock manifolds for about a year. I was happy with the car, but I knew I was leaving lots on the table. Finally put LTs on and the car had to have picked up an instant 30-40 hp...huge difference. If I had to do it over again, I'd still get the cam first since it sounds cool and gives a huge midrange power gain.

Okay, so I finally went and dynoed the car on Friday. Previous numbers were 328hp/333tq

With the addition of a cam the number came out to 345/340.

This is without ANY tuning, with stock manifolds, stock LS1 intake, and open cutout with stock cats.

Where I only gained 17 peak, I gained around 20-22 over my previous dyno across the midrange.

Hope this gives some idea as to what to expect?

BTW, The cam was a TR 224 cam on a 114 lsa

Great input i just ordered my C1 cam 222/222 566/566 and will be running it w/ stock manifolds at least for a while !

I hope to have a noticable gain and i'm sure the car will sound meaner.
