Engine Rattle

Engine Rattle From cold, all pretty quiet but a hint of piston slap.
When warmed up and and idleing there is a "ticking" noise that seems to be in-time with a single piston. At 1000 rpm the ticking becomes a rattle, getting louder until 1500 rpm when it just seems to go ? I revved up to say 4000 rpm and released, the rattle appears at 1500 right through to 1000 rpm then back to a ticking. When in gear (and the brake on, therefore putting the engine under load) the usual rattle at 1000-1500 is again a sigle tick, again about in time with a sigle piston.
Cant be a ring as no smoke ? Just thought someone else might have had these syptoms ? again, any help appreciated.

Re: Engine Rattle Sounds like a lifter to me. You may want to pop the valve covers and look if you can see something. Then try re-torquing your rockers. I'd give that a try before pulling the heads.

Good luck getting them to fix it.
At this point I've driven 6 cars with it and convinced they all do it at some point or tone.
Maybe some people just listen a little closer then others. I don't know!
