Rollmaster + nylon tensioner?
My LS6 block has bolt holes above the first main, my LS1 doesn't. Until I read the 10/03 Chevy High Performance mag article on the Katech 454 C5-R buildup I didn't know what those were for. In the article, photo 14a shows a nylon tensioner between the gears and inside the chain. Katech is using the Cloyes timing gear set.
Is the nylon tensioner required? With rollmaster?

My early 98 block was drilled and tapped for the 2 mount bolts that attach the nylon chain dampener (I guess thats what your talking about?)
I know many of the later block LS1s are not. I don't think you need it anyway. In fact, I know of no one that uses it.

Re: Rollmaster + nylon tensioner?
Exactly. My 2000 LS1 block does not have the holes for it, my 2002 LS6 block does have the holes. I'm using a rollermaster timing set which seems pretty tight, but Katech uses the tensioner with a Cloyes setup. So Katech must know something about the tensioner with aftermarket timing chains.

Re: Rollmaster + nylon tensioner?
GM was going to use that tensioner in the LS1, but decided against it and is why the early blocks are drilled for it. Not sure why they started drilling for them again. Not necessary for the rollmaster as it already fits tight. The Cloyes setup uses a stock Renold chain, FYI.
