What to do with lq4 that needs boring?
Picked up a lq4 short block for $200 bucks. The guy I got it from let it get water in the cylinders and one is pitted so I am not sure if it will hone out or not. He said it lost oil pressure and started knocking when he was going down the side of a mountain so he bought a used motor and installed it. He told me it had less than 40k on the motor and that is probably about right, it has no ring groove but that dosen't mean a lot on these motors since the last 4.8 I had apart had 103K and it had zero ring groove. If I have to bore it I was thinking of doing a 370 with some ls6 heads, maybe a fast 90/90, big *** cam, have some new pacesetter long tubes, and it will be in front of a t56. I am also thinking by the time I buy pistons, rings, bearings, machine work, etc that I might be better off buying a lq9 and doing heads, cam, intake, etc since I can buy a lq9 for $1500. The last ls motor I had bored was a 4.8 that I put ls1 internals in was about $340 for the bore and having the crank turned. I would like to get in the 450 to 500 rwhp range so shoot me in the right direction guys. Thanks in advance...
