Default Need some opinions

I just finished my cam swap yesterday. Cranked the car up and everything sounded good at first, then I heard a tapping not a knock just to clarify. After about 30-45 seconds it went away. Well today, I drove it down the road to get some gas (kept it under 4k rpms) all is still well. When I just about got to my house, it started tapping again. Keep reading then give me you opinions.

This is the breakdown of what's been done:

-Cam/pushrods/comp 928 springs
-oil pump/chain/pulley/ARP rod bolts/ and gaskets.

During the install, I was putting the rockers back on. While tightening the #8 exhaust rocker down, my hand was covering it up cause ya'll know how far back it is. Well I noticed that it wasn't tightening up and moved my hand to look at it and the spring was compressed alot but not fully. Well I loosened it back off and pushed on the rod to check the lifter and I could feel it pushing in some so I figured maybe it was stuck before then loosened up from working the rod on the lifter. The car has always had a slight tap to it anyway, but barely (and I mean barely noticeable) Do you think it could be a bad lifter and the noise it had been making just got amplified by the new cam and springs? The rod bolts were done to ARP's directions using the moly lube, but what's to say those aren't the problem. Thanks in advance guys.

Oil pressure good? I have noticed quite a bit more noise after installing cams (sewing machine sound).

I always rotate the crank & retorque the rocker bolts with no spring pressure just in case spring pressure caused an incorrect reading.

How sure are you that you have the correct pushrod length? Its tough to tell a knock from valvetrain noise sometimes, in my setup I was told 7.4" pushrods would be best but not it has the sewing machine sound, so tomorrow I am checking the pushrod length and ordering new ones.

Sometimes a really long screw driver can be used against the block to tell where the sound is coming from. Touch it low on the block and high on the block and hold the handle to your ear. It sounds dumb and your wife will laugh at you if she sees you doing it but it works.

Everything was done by the book. I used Thunder Racing's guide for reference if I ran into a dilema. The pushrods are the same exact length as the stockers. I'm really start to lean towards the lifters. The tap speeds up with the engine, but doesn't get any louder which is suggesting to me it's probably a lifter. Here's some background on the engine if it'll help any: The car is a 98, but the engine is a 99. The motor sat up for a year in a covered wrecked car at a shop. After it was put in my car it ran great, but then developed oil leaks like I knew it would. I'm thinking that over that period of time the lifters lost prime and then putting this cam in plus all the track time it has seen over the past two years was the breaking point for them. Like I said in the original post it started tapping them went a way then came back after a short drive. Oil pressure is good and I've got the screwdriver technique down to an art lol. If anything else comes to mind let me know cause I'm probably about to take the heads off and look at the lifters especially on the #8. Good thing it's not my DD.

Mr. Electric my cam is almost like yours (228/230) on stock heads. I would think the 7.4's would be fine in mine, but I've been wrong before. I checked everything and no PTV problems prior to starting.
