Oil change interval question, time related
im not sure if this is the right section but a question for guys that dont drive their car much. do you still follow the mileage interval for changing your oil or do you follow a time interval.
i drive my car about 2k per year now and i just realized that although its only been 2200 miles since my last oil change its been almost 18 months! i use mobile1 10w30 so i would think since its syth i should be ok but i wanted some outside opinions from others.
thanks

The reason they use a guideline of 3 months is because of some driving conditions (like sitting in hot traffic not clocking up miles but definitely engine wear) for certain drivers.
I think of it like this. If it looks like coffee with cream = good, coffee black = not good. When it starts to get black, change it. I never rely on time or distance.

Depends on how hard you drive your car.
I change mine every two weekends on the track, Road race track. Or about every 500 miles.
Send the oil to Blackstone lab for analysis and comes back that is about the right interval.
I use M1 15-w50 with a 3qt accu-sump and oil cooler. 10.5 qts total
