head/cam input please
head/cam input please ok so i recently bought an 01 M6 vette. i want to do a head cam swap this winter, but need a little help deciding on the setup. I am thinking about running long tubes, catted x-pipe (so its not a hassle getting inspected), cutouts, and then back through either stock or a mild exhaust. I would like to see in the range of 400-450 at the wheels. As much as i loved the 224/236 on a 112 in my lt1. I think i want something less choppy that wont shake the car quite so much. Really i think it would be cool to have a cam that is hard to hear loping through a stock exhaust. but im not gunna go with a baby cam if it means not coming close to 400. i might bump up to a fast 90/90 as well, and im sure im gunna need a decent tune. gotta get rid of the rear o2 sensor so i dont throw any codes for the inspection anyways. The car will mostly a street machine with a the occasional trip to the track for a test and tune night. Anyways let me know what you guys think.

very interesting thread... i will be really nice to see the results of side by side head and cam comparisons. then ill start looking for sound clips of some of the cams that are supposed to be stealthy 
A local guy has a ls1 GTO with Livernois stage 1 243 heads with a comp 224 .581 on 114. With a ported Fast 90 by Tony Mamo of AFR he is making 430whp through an automatic. Pretty impressive #s of a cam that small. The Livernois Heads flow atleast if not better than the advertise. I am installing my h/c/i this week.

Port the stock TB, do the coolant bypass, and keep the LS6 manifold. The fast 90 will not be that big of a gain on the car until you get around 450 rwhp. I would suggest some LG headers, and a nice Z06 Ti catback. With a small cam and all the bolt ons you should get right around 400 rwhp. If you upgrade to some LS6 heads and a bigger cam like a 232 234 you should be able to get around 420+ rwhp.

in reality, all you need is a baby cam. im making 368hp/392tq with a 218/224 cam (check my sig) with shitty shorty headers, stock y-pipe, and a ls6 manifold.
i have some AFR 205's waiting install and im planning on getting some AR Headers to compliment them. with just those, i should def. be in the 400+ range.
there is no need to go with a monster cam if all your looking for is a solid 400hp/tq. all it takes is the right parts that compliment each other.

A Tr224 cam is a really good all around cam,Or a tsp224 @114.You can't go wrong with it.A cam with 224/228 @114 will give you a little more power and is also very good.I would also get a set of good ported heads,Patriot,PRC,DART,AFR etc if you can swing it in your budget.That will get you the numbers you want.A fast 90 setup is cool but really pricey for about 20 hp.Take your time and do the research.

anyways im leaning towards a set of AFR 205's and might have them milled some, the cam im am thinking of something on a 115 or 116 lsa. i still have plenty more homework to do before winter tho
If you install a new set of heads, I would use one of the two cams to go with them. My first choice would be a Comp LSK lobe custom grind cam, lobe #2125 on the intake side and #2127 on the exhaust side. It would be a 219/227 @ .050" duration, .632"/.639" lift w/1.7 ratio rockers, and keep it on a 113* + 2*. The second one would be with the XE-R lobe's, #3721/#3724. This cam is 222/228 @ .050" duration, .581"/.588" w/1.7 rockers, and keep it on a 113* + 3*.
