Default High mileage LS1 help

Hey guys.

I finally got my dream car. An 02 WS6 M6 back in April. Unfortunetly the car has over 125K on it. Previous owner drove alot. I've noticed lately that there is a tick with the engine. It actually started right after I was showing off for my brother in law the day after I got the car. I hope it's something in the valve train. I'd like to at least pull the pushrods and check the rockers. So I have a couple questions.

#1 How difficult is this compared to changing spark plugs?
#2 Are the instructions in the Haynes manual correct? (i'll post them if you want)
#3 Should I go deeper and pull the heads and have everything checked out?

I have limited experience with these engines and don't have many tools. I managed to do spark plugs myself and I do all the routine maintenance on my vehicles. Any thoughts you can give me are much appreciated.

compression check would show a bottom end problem right? Would suck if I blew something in the bottom and have been driving it for 4 months.

Oil pressure is fine. It's a steady ticking noise that I can hear up until about 1,500RPMS or so. After that I can't hear either because it goes away or the exhaust is too loud. Sometimes I can hear it if I drive past a building or bridge.

I also notice that when I step on it getting on an on ramp I get some kind or rattling noise that I keep assuming is a heat shield. Could they be related?

I also should note that the car just went on a 700 mile round trip from PA to VT and back. I beat the holy hell out of it taking my nephew for a ride and nothing on the car changed. I mean I had the oil smoking I drove it so hard. If something was messed up in the bottom end I'm sure that would have blown it up.

first check for a pushrod it should be easy. roll the pushrod on a flat surface and watch them carefull. check if they are jumping. if there fine thenu have somthing else u have to search for.

When you were showing off were you bouncing off the rev limiter? If so you most likely just bent a pushrod which is not the hardest thing to do. These motors are built solid. As long as you keep up the maintenance these motors will last a good while. Check pushrods first then move on from there.

When I first brought the car home, yes I believe I did bounce it of the revlimiter. Or at least very close to it. Is this something I could accomplish in a day? If I need new ones, how long should they be? As far as I can tell, the motor is stock.
