Comp "R" lifters and YTs, or are stock ok?
Do I need Comp "R" lifters and YTs, or are stock ok? My stock rockers and lifters have ~3800 miles on them, only ~400 were with the 230/224 cam, the rest were when the car was stock. My new cam will be big, I guess what I need to know is at what point are upgraded lifters and rockers considered necessary? What are the advantages to the "R" lifters? I know the YTs will not flex any compared to stockers, but not sure about the lifters. Thanks, Shawn
The lifters are made for high RPMs as they dont bleed down as much as the stockers. You can run them to 7000 easily (I have).
I wouldnt do the YTs with the Comp Rs though. The Rs like less preload (.010-.020) and not the stock preload (~.050). With the stock rockers or YTs, you cant do anything to adjust the preload except guess with the shims with the YTs. I would do the Comp Pro Mag rockers. The only down side is that the smallest ratio is 1.75, but it shouldnt make a big difference. Its only .05 different from stock.

I'm running comp r's with y/t's and no problems yet. My motor isn't supposed to see high rpm but it's been to 7k a few times and still holding together. That's with a .612 lift cam too.
