Engine knock on '02 SS?
Engine knock on '02 SS? Situation - Bone stock 2002 SS M6. 5000 miles. No oil consumption. Great oil pressure. Very audible knock coming from the bottom of the motor (all the time).
This knock does not go away. You hear it on cold starts and after it has been driven for 50 miles. No louder, no softer. You can't hear it very well from the top, but if you put your ear under the car it sounds like a hammer is trying to beat its way out of the block. Sounds like a couple of rods knocking to me...and it is getting worse.
I took the car into the dealership earlier this week, got it back today. They gave me the runaround (of course) saying at first that it was piston slap, and then backing out of that excuse and said that it was carbon detonation. Very frustrating having to explain why their excuses where wrong in my situation; guess they didn't realize that I do actually know a little bit about these cars and the LS1 motor and expected me to be a good little customer and just leave...
Action from the dealership now is to set up a meeting with the regional engineer and service representative from GM. Hopefully that will be in the near future.
I'm looking for some advice here. What you think it may be and what my options are at this time. And ideas about what conversations to have with the regional GM guys?

Re: Engine knock on '02 SS? how does the car run?not trying to downplay your situation i wouldnt tolerate engine knocking either.my understanding is that if you complain enough GM will fix your motor.if it is a knock once its fixed itll be ok but dont expect little noises lick ticks ect to go away because that just isnt avoidable with these motors despite what people claim.
Re: Engine knock on '02 SS? My motor knocks like hell till it warms up. Sounds more like a knocking noise than piston slap. The car runs very strong and I would have to pull all my mods off to take it to the dealer and have the "look" at it so I'm waiting until it throws a rod through the block to strip the mods off and take it in! 
Re: Engine knock on '02 SS? It runs, but it isn't what I would consider a "strong" car... My 98 Z28 was much quicker. And I realize that there will be noises with these motors, but hard knocking is not an acceptable one to me on a 5000 mile-old car.
