Default AP-Engineering,Clinton, MI = $1000 for cam install (?)

Talked to Rich, Tim thanks for the referal.
There are just no shops in metro- detroit...i've head bad things about detroit speedworks, but who knows.
Anyway....Rich had never heard of a c1 cam....but it seems like they know their stuff / at least the web-site looks good, but is that a fair price for cam (install only + springs/retainer install)

The usual going rates are anywhere from $350 to $500.

Since you got your referral from Tim, ask him to install your cam, he does good/cheap work.

I'd like to & i'm like 2 miles away.
He seems to know his stuff back n forth. He told me to have Rich (his friend i guess)quote install at AP and let him know....he gave my his handle here but i do not know how to get to him directly from here.

I know he's done a c5 before...if the dude is interested i'll pay him and help turn some wrenches...

Mirek,
Hey, I looked for you on the C5 forum but couldn't find you. I was wondering what they had quote you. $1000 does seem a bit on the high side, but the F-body crowd needs to remember that the steering HAS to be taken out to do a cam swap on a C5. That is NO picnic.
You can PM me or email me if you want to see about getting it done. I'll check with my C5 expert to see what his schedule looks like.

C5 cam swaps are more work.

What does that $1000 include? Is that $1000 straight labor or does that include parts?

Mirek,

Do yourself a favor and call Detroit Speedworks and Livernois Motorsports and get a comparable quote. Take your time and talk to all three shops to make sure you are comfortable with them and pick your shop. You won't go wrong with any of them. APE and Speedworks are the two big GM shops in town and Livernois is branching out from the big time Ford roots.

Each shop will have their love them and leave them crowds by the nature of the competition factor in the motor city. Most of the time it's gosip or a clown that's not telling the whole story. These shops will back their work and make it right for their customers but that doesn't prevent a customer from doing something dumb.

You'll want to visit Speedworks to take a look at their Twin Turbo vette. It's worth the drive by for you to do your plannin for next year.

One more thing, swing by Motownmuscle.com and take a look around. The shops offer some discounts on parts and work for club memembers. So it's worth comfirming the quotes with a "what if I'm a Motownmuscle.com Member???"

Speedworks did not renew their LS1 Edit license. APE used LS1 Edit on my car yesterday. It was good

Speedworks uses Tech2 for GM's instead of LS1Edit. If you have your own copy of Edit they will use that. Shouldn't really matter. Just give them a call. I was there yesterday and it was pretty busy towards the latter end of the day.

OMG!! for 1k, i would be going to ls1 how too and doing it myself. I know its more work for the C5, but when i was shopping around for my Fbody cam spring install i found as low as 200.00 and average was 300 - 350.00 from people on this board and ls1.com Most shops are a few bills higher. GL

TechII won't make a permanent alteration to the pcm unless they are using a one-off specialized one.

Yeah, I'm not sure. Like I said, he really needs to call the shops and figure out what they do. I know they tune a good number of turbo vettes there. As with any cam swap, he's going to get dinged with labor. It does take the better part of a day, if not two using shop time to get it done. That explains the high cost and in all honesty, I think a quote from Speedworks is going to be in the same area as it would be from Speed Inc. there in Chicago and the other shops he listed up here.

If he lived on this side of the state I'd cut him a pretty good deal. I've already done a few, it's not a big deal. Just time consuming.

I know of several tuners that use a TechII to reprogram custom PCMs...not all LS1 based stuff but L35 and L67 too.

Shoot I would've helped out for a 12 pack
