Default 98 ls1 head work

what would be the best thing for me to do on my 98 heads. i know they aren't the best but ii'm short changed right now.

i still haven't gotten a cam yet either.

Pull them apart and bowl port them. '98 heads were sand cast and the ports are not as smooth as later castings, so bowl porting will gain you some power. Don't be afraid to try porting even if you've never done it. Just remember to NOT take off too much material. Just smooth the area directly below the valves into a smooth radius. There's usually a sharp edge where the factory plunge cuts the casting below the valve seat. Smoothing that out will increase flow significantly in the lower lift ranges which helps cylinder filling.

i had planned on this just hadn't made up my mind if they would be worth taking off. i had planned on getting some 5.3 heads but i got caught short on funds and still need a cam.
