'10 camaro or ls7 crate for '99 z/28?
2010 Camaro? With all of the problems GM is having right now, being practicaly bankrupt, plus the new soviet USSA goverment coming on line next month, the new Nationalized Motor Company will only be spitting out "Green" littly golf cart style cars. There is no sutch thing as the 2010 Camaro, nor thanks to the last election cycle, nor will there ever be again.

I would go with the ls7or ls3 crate and put it in my O2 camaro (or maybe in my 69 camaro) with just about every other mod I could get. I would still have several thousand left in my bank account, and be able to stomp all over that 2010. Plus the 10 camaro is ugly. I am a die hard GM fan, but I think they got it wrong on this car... I hate to say it, but If I was forced to buy a new car in that catagory, I would go with the mustang or Dodge... that's why I'll stick with my 02.

here's my thing:....say you drop 20g's into the motor you decide to buy and drop in....you're dropping 20 g's in a '99 z/28 that you'll never get your money back from.
On the other hand, you can have a nice new car that's pretty fast (well, fast enough) and everything on it/in it is new....and you get a warranty.

Really? No response to this? WOW! I thought I was making a funny and it looks like from the responses I did not get that we all must be thinking the same thing. Again, WOW!
I think what everyone is trying to tell you is you can build something for your present car that will destroy the 2010 and have $ left over to do what ever with. I for one have built my 408 for $7800 (600 crank hp) building the trans and will exchange the rear end for a 9", and have less then 20k in it. The crate engines from GM are cool, but you can build something even better with the same $. There are very good sponsors affiliated with this forum that can put you way ahead of the '10.
As far as putting 20k in your present ride and loosing its value, as soon as you drive off the lot with any new car, it will depretiate drasticaly. A 2010 car will loose its value for the first 6 years. Spending $ on anything fun is not the smartest way to invest $, but it sure is fun!

I would buy a 427 stroker shortblock (Katech Value 427) with forged rotating assembly, custom grind cam, custom ported heads, FAST 92 Intake and TB, Strange Dana S60 behind it all. Proceed to blow the doors off of the 5th gen and it's decendents for decades and garner the admiration of other 4th gen faithful.
The 5th gen is pretty cool with it's USB ports and Xenon halos, etc. but it's heavier and less areodynamic (by .02 I looked it up). But for me it just isn't a superior car outside the LS3 vs LS1 issue which would be a non-issue in your case.
The 4th Gen F-body is going to be a classic one day. Think about it, people on this board 30 years from now will be buying up old 4th gens and restoring them because they traded or sold the one they have today for the 5th gen or something else. Why not be the guy who kept the car he loves and not be the one who is mad for dumping it for something else. Plus the insurance costs on the '99 will be awesomer.
Plus, lets say something tragic happens to your '99, you will be able to scoop up another 4th gen very cheap to transfer the good parts to.
I say build your car! Walk all over the new car!!!
Disclaimer: I've been drinking tonight.

which would you take/prefer?
'10 camaro would end up at about ~35k
(consider insurance too)
ls7 crate about 15k for my '99 z/28 i'l do all the work and trying to keep a budget under 20k (if possible for conversion) and consider resale of orig ls1 already in it and misc parts that would contribute to build.

For the money, the 480 hp LS3 is unbeatable. Under $7K for engine & computer/harness.
But if money is no object, the LS9 is available, $20K.
