Default Modifying the cast Single plane ls3 intake

1st idea:
Ive had an idea to modify my single plane intake to accept a front mount tb. I was thinking about cutting thecenter out of the manifold and welding in a boxed center and matching the front of it with a 90mm flange.

2nd idea
Cut the top front of the manifold and weld a 4150 flange onto it but 2.5" foreward from the original 4150 flange so it would clear the cowl without cutting the car, might even help to angle the tb flange a few degrees. then you could just get a harwood 2.5" or SS hood and put a circle air cleaner ontop and make some good power. Plus you could use a 4100 nitrous plate.

I would think with either way, you are gonna spend more on it than you would a sheetmetal intake, and that intake still will not make good power. So, unless you are restricted in a class and you can not run sheetmetal intakes, I would not go through the work and $$$$$$$$ you are thinking of doing and spending on an intake that is inferior to begin with.

I have that intake too. I am very disapointed in the performance of my build. I am not sure it is the intakes fault or the ultra low profile Edelbrock elbow I am running. I have been leaning toward the elbow. With this delema I have been considering changing the manifold entierly and was wondering why no one makes a front inlet manifold like the old LT1 manifold for the LS engines. I know you can get a sheetmetal intake for 3 grand but, 3 grand is too much. I can think of better ways to spend 3 grand and make more power then a intake alone will make, but I am still stuck with this intake!!

Awesome idea, however, you probably should pay close attention to your plenum size or the loss of velocity created by a too large of a plenum may just kill your efforts.

Larger plenum volumes will make more high RPM power at the expense of mid-range torque. Anything driven on the street needs mid-range torque.

No, plenum volume. If your plenum volume is too large you can expect sluggish throttle response.

My question is if you have the ability to do this, you have the ability to build a sheet metal intake, why didn't you go that route? It looks good, I am not trying to put your efforts down, I just think you can build the entire manifold.

Please keep us posted.

its been sitting on the back burner for a few, ill try to get a tb flange in the next couple of weeks and finish it up.
On a side not I made a nice 3.5" aluminum CAI for my friends v-1 supercharged LT1 that elimiates the crappy dryer slinky pipe that comes from the factory. We made it so it loops around and back into the engine bay to get the cold air from the SS hood vent that opens up there
