the info I've received from a buddy that has lots of LS experience is the stock starter is fine and the Mitsubishi part# for the later year GTO is even better, higher torque geared down slightly. The best part is it brand new with 1 year warrantee $119.00. The GM price for this specific part number is like $437.00 with online GM parts dealers selling it for $305.00.
So, it seems like the way to go. If some wierd issue pops up I will post it here but I don't foresee it.
P.S. I don't cut corners on parts, so if this direction didn't feel right I was going to buy the Permanent Magnet TCI starter. The thing is the gear ratios are so high on those aftermarket starters for crazy ( read I guess ethanol/alcohol) compression ratios 18:1 ratings that I wasn't sure if I wanted it to turn that slow on a daily driver.
