Default when do i need rod bolts?

im putting together a ls3 with heads, cam, intake and plan on spinning it to 7k and obviously want to keep it reliable. the oil pan is already off so it would be a quick change. should i pick up a set of katech bolts?

I believe with the Katech's you have to drill out the rods. With ARP's, you simply swap them out. It's usually a wise investment once you start coming close to 500, and even more so with how high you are going to be spinning it. Even if it weren't modified, stronger bolts are not a bad choice any day.

There is no drilling required to install the Katech bolts....

I put these in my 99 LS1 a couple years ago and have no issues at all.

Although the Katech rod bolts are definitely an upgrade over the stock bolts. The stock LS3 bolts are WAY better than stock LS1 bolts were and as of yet I cant say Ive seen one thread were there was an LS3 rod bolt failure. Im doing a 7K RPM redline LS3 build now and running the stock rod bolts for instance whereas I upgraded to Katech rod bolts on my 99 LS1.
