A friend of mine just put in a LS3 into his 01 Camaro. A couple of retainers broke a month ago and left him stranded. He had some new installed from CompCams and drove good for a week and voila!! same two broke AGAIN.
What do you the issue is?

 

Coil bind or valve float.

 

Yup.

He will be a lucky man if thats all thats broken or bent. Retainers dont just break. If it were my car I'd replace the valve springs and check the pushrods for straightness and other things i cant think of right now because Im hungover like a dog.
