Question LS1 Exhaust, QUIETEST MUFFLER??

okay, just like the title says. i have LT's on the car now. running them open. im going to put dual electric cut outs on the Y, with moroso spiral flows just in front of them. so that will be hellaciously loud. but when i have the cut outs closed i want it to be silent. so my question is what is the quiestest single in dual out muffler i could put on my 98 trans am? ive been looking and its looking like stock or dynomax super turbo would be quietest... but its hard to tell by just watching video's? anybody feel free to chime in. thanks.

I like the magnaflow because they flow great, offer a quiet sound at idle, but at WOT they deliver great sound. I dont have them personally I like all my stuff LOUD lol but my friend has them on his WS6.

SLP Dual/Dual. See what you think:

God I want one... I'm so sick of LOUD. My Magnaflow is quiet... but the SLP D/D is definitely quieter. Still haven't found if it flows the same or not. Hope this helps.

I have some bad news . . . The Dual-Dual has been discontinued and the muffler is no longer available.

damn.... i was loving that muffler. if you guys know many, just give a list of all the quiet ones you know. how is the super turbo compared to stock? i do not want loud through out any of the RPM's. goal is a sleeper car here. ill have plenty of noise when i want to open the cutouts.

Sorry for not getting right back to you !

Dynomax makes several different cross-flow mufflers for F-Bodies.

SUPER-TURBO 17739 & 17670

ULTRA-FLO SS 17266

ULTRA-FLO WELDED 17227 & 17536

I am not sure which one is the quietest, but my "gut instinct" says the SUPER-TURBO would be quieter.

Hopefully, others will post on this subject !

I'd say Borla. I had their non-adjustable cat-back on my cammed 98 TA, and I always considered it pretty quiet. It has a nice deep tone, a good sound but never too loud or obnoxious. A little louder than stock to be sure, but I never woke anybody up when I left for work at 3:30am.
On their website, the whole cat-back is Part# 140028, I'm sure if you called/emailed they'd tell you what muffler they use and you could pick that up individually. I picked up a used cat-back (on here if I recall) for $300 or something.
Hope this helps.

The magnaflow on my stock M6 is great. Quiet at idle but you can tell it has an exhaust when you get on it but its not obnoxious like some other ones are. Pretty much you can tell it has a cat back but its not loud enough to atract the police.

ive got a magnaflow cb on mine and its still loud

im thinking of adding another muffler before the axle, just after my e-cutout.

idk if its the big headers or big cubes or big cam but this catback definitely isnt 'quiet'. used to have a borla but it was 'uncorked', and before that was true duals, so im not sure whats quieter, but theres gotta be better

At the old shop i used to work at the quieter someone wanted their modded LSX the more magnaflows wed throw at it lol (saw 6 on a vette once, with cats) :-o

I have LT's, no cats, and a magnaflow with an E-cutout. It isn't quiet, but it is definitely reasonable. Like someone else said, I can leave for work at 4am and not **** off the neighbors. I think having a better y-pipe would help mine, as I have one that has the pipes meet at close to 90 degrees. Having a smoother one would make it a little less loud.

I would think that a stock muffler would be the best choice. It won't flow really well in comparison to the aftermarket ones, but you have the cutout for performance. I've batted around the idea of using a stock one several times. I wish someone made a stock-ish one that was stainless.

I bought supertubos thinking they would be quiet. I was mistaken. They aren't loud, but I kind of had the same plan as you and they are too loud to go unnoticed.

Look in the classifieds on here for a dual/dual used. I see a few on here every week.

my thought exactly. lol think i should put some cats, or an extra muffler on the back? im not exactly sure just how quiet the dual/dual is... but im looking to hear my belts spin over my exhaust. 0 rpm - redline. i want it as quiet as say... a stock 2010 v6 camaro. which you can't hear with the windows down if the fan is on. is that amount of noise surpression possible with one muffler?

I've got a SLP DD I've been meaning to get rid of. Pm me your contact info, if you decide on that. I've had the magnaflow, it sounds good, but not as quiet as the DD.
