Okay guys new to the LS stuff. Im about to build a LQ9 motor and wanting to know what cranks and rod combos i can use from other LS style motors in this block? also Which heads will bolt to the block and what are the most wanted head for this block? Im putting this motor in a fox body mustang Prolly will either be a 200 or 300 shot nitrous setup or maybe a ysi vortech or procharged f1. Any info a knowledge is welcomed!

If you're building a motor with new heads, pistons, etc you might as well start with an LQ4. They're quite a bit cheaper. The LQ9 had the 317 heads, LS1 cam, and higher compression pistons, but that was about the only difference.

IMO... For the money l92/ls3 style heads can't be beat for 4" bore motors.

I have 550$ in mine, they flow STUPID amazing for stock castings.. Talking aftermarket casting flow numbers.

If you're going boost, do an lq4 with stock heads. Nitrous/motor, lq9 with l92s. The 317s on lq4s/lq9s flow identical to 243 ls6 heads but have a different combustion chamber so it lowers the compression hurting power, you can mill them but then you limit your cam selection if you are looking to go big.

If you're going forged, it won't matter anyway.. I'm doing a forged 370 built for a 300 hit with l92 heads.

M6s are putting down 500Rwhp with cam only setups with l92 top ends, they perform.

FWIW, Thompson Motorsports got me in my 370 for under 3K shipped (h beam rods wiseco pistons stock crank arp 2000 bolts all new bearings). Beat other sponsors pricing by a grand.

Just TSPs Ls3 style 231/236 cam should get you there with all the bolt ons..
Stock l76 intake... They flow equal to FAST 102s and you can get the intake rails and 42# injectors for 300$ or less.

They can make nasty "budget" builds.

Sounds like a REAL Good budget build to me! I'll keep this in mind.. Maybe this build instead of messing with my LS1... Will my LS1 T56 bolt up without any extra mods?

I'm an auto guy, I know very little about the T56.

It is an Lq9 gen III block however so it should be a direct swap as far as that goes. The newer style l92/ls3/ly6/etc blocks might need something extra, I'm not sure...

If you have the funds, jump straight to it IMO.

If it's on a budget, grab the LQ9, then just get a cam and headers. Carcraft showed the stock LQ9 at over 400hp with exhaust alone. It's rated at 380ft/lbs, 350hp from the factory. Later on you can always bolt up L92 heads, maybe an intake and be well over 500hp.
Plenty of people running the LQ blocks with LS T56s. It's a direct bolt on.

Most common is 370 or 408.. You can go much larger but i wouldn't advise a power added at that point.
