Need advise.. head guides are toast!

Default Need advise.. head guides are toast!

I'm building a cammed LY6 motor for my 67 nova a found out my valve guides are sloppy. I have a brand new valve train for the heads with new cam so I'm wondering if I should just send these off to get valve job with new guides cut ($700), buy bare L92 heads and put my valve train in them ($600), or try and save up a few bucks and just buy ported heads? Is ported these heads really worth the extra coin? This is a street car looking to get 450rwhp behind a T56 tranny. Guidance guidance.. I'm kinda in a pinch right now as I dont have a lot of time to waste on this project. the maxy I can spend is approx $900 btw.. which might actually answer my own question.

You won't need ported heads for 450 rwhp. The stock l92's flow more than enough.

Also, 700 bucks for a valve job and new guides is a little steep. See if they can do bronze liners in the guides and shop around for a better price. A good valve job and bronze liners shouldn't cost more than 400 bucks.

There is nothing wrong with a liner. Done properly, they will last a long time.

Liners work nicely. I've used them on a few LSx heads and even a BBC to get the stem diameter down to 11/32".

check the diameter of your new valves. if the valve stem diameter is off buying new heads isnt going to fix your problem.
