Default which trans to choose?

going to be doing a 6.0 or 6.2, stock bottom end with arp bolts, ms4 cam and going to carb it. going to be spraying with a 200 or so shot. im not really sure on which trans to run. kinda new to the lsx stuff. should i run a 4l80 with the trans controller or a th400? id love to run a t56 but will that hold the power? this is a car that will see 80% street duty but i want it to be reliable. what do you guys think? thanks for your input

T56 will probably be fine. If you're worried, get one built with some bronze fork pads, billet synchro keys, and a steel 3-4 shift fork. That should hold about 600hp.

Tick, TDP, RPM are all good names and I've heard good things about all of them. If you are more adventurous and want to do the build yourself, thegearbox is a great place to get parts. That's where I got my stuff from when I built mine.

You can find the 6.2 in the '10-12 Camaros and newer Escalades. You may be able to find it in some other newer vehicles, but I'm not sure which ones. I'm not as familiar with the L92/L99/LS3 engine family, so I will leave that to someone else. I will say a Lq4/Lq9 based 6.0 build will probably be much cheaper. L92s are still going for a pretty high price compared to the LQ4s and LQ9s. A great combo would be to start with a 6.0 block and add L92/LS3 heads, but it depends on what you want to do.

thanks for all the input guys. i was looking on the d&d site, and the t56 magnum may be what i choose. theres nothing like rowing thru gears yourself.

and what about the ly6 motors? ive been looking at those online and they seem to be just what im looking for, but what about the vvt? its easy enough to remove correct? im going to be running a carb and dont think ill really be needing it

Once you get into alot of drag racing consider a 80e or a TH400. A midly build on the T-56 will hold your needs. Tick does a great job.

how much needs to be done for a 80 to be tough? if its cheaper to build that i may just go that route. and if i switch to a manual valve body, does that eliminate the need for a trans controller?

80e trannys with a simple shift kit and servo can hold up to at least 500HP recommended but I have seen them hold alot more than that.

Bonestock 80e will handle a single cab truck for 500RWHP easily all day with a good tuner.

wow that is pretty impressive for the 80 trans. im used to the ford transmissions and they would not hold that at all, unless you built them up for sure...haha. man this gm stuff is awesome. im still up in the air because i really love driving a stick, but i cant help to look at the cost factor. does the t56 and l80 use the same yoke for the driveshaft? i may start with the auto and swap to a stick in the future and only having to buy one driveshaft would be nice.

so ive found a few t56 rebuilt units and with the 6.2 engine, can i still use 6.0 flywheel and clutch out of say a 6.0 gto?

With shift kit and servo they will hold way more than 500 with no problem lol thats on trucks soo imagine in a lighter car such as an F-Body and such. 80e's are great trannys when built right and tuned right. Ford is just a NO! lol jk

What vehicle is this going into? What transmission did this vehicle have?

4L80E hands down!

The 4L80E shares 75% of its components with the 400 plus it has an overdrive.
Best of both worlds.

the vehicle is a 89 mustang lx hatch. gonna be about 3000 lbs, street car, minitub with 325 drag radial in the back. its going to be driven mostly on motor, and only sprayed once in awhile, will be a 150-200 shot when it is sprayed. id like to run a 6.2 with ls3/l92 heads and an ms4 cam, and it will be carb'd

Yeah those are good 2500HDs, newer escalades, those big white chevy work vans, you can probably find one in your local junk yard.

Exclamation

2900$ D&D T-56 Magnum - http://www.ddperformance.com/chevy_magnum.html

5000$ Tick Performance - http://www.tickperformance.com/tick-...camaro-firebird/

What is the difference between the two ?
I didn't want to start another to keep this thread resourceful.
I'm in the market for a new gearbox & selling my core later.
