Build help
Several weeks ago I pulled my LS3 416 apart to do a cam swap and found damage. After going all the way into the engine I decided to just replace it with a new short block because #7 piston skirt had rubbed the cylinder wall. The crank and rods are ok but it wasjust easier to buy a new short block.
So here is what I have going on with the new build so far. Please let me know if you have any advise or suggestions. I will be assemblind the engine at the end of the week and install it is the car this weekend.
specs:

Manley SS valves, 216.5 intake 160 exhaust
Flow 351 intake & 228 exhaust at 600 lift
70cc chamber
cam shaft 238/248 .629 113lsa
Fast 102 intake
American Racing headers 1 7/8 & X-pipe. The headers are coated with 3000* PolyDyn heat coating.
Magnaflow mufflers and electronic cutouts in front of the mufflers.
60# injectors
Haltech cold air intake
25% underdrive pulley system
TR6 spark plugs
factory rockers with the needle bearing upgrade
Comp Magnum push rods.
Katech timing chain
LS7 lifters
Callies crank & rods, weisco pistons, ARP bolts all the way around

So would I but I was not planning this engine purchase so I dont have the extra cash to spend on those heads right now. I tried to sell my heads to offset buying some new ones for this but I dont have the time to wait around for my heads to sell. The heads I was looking at are the Texas Speed 260 LS3.

Yes they where coated Manley forged pistons. I bought this short block from a company that is now out of business and it was a bad build job. The rig gap was 35 top 40 second, and that is big even for an extreme nitrous build. From the looks of the cylinders they took a factory block and did a dingle ball hone then just assembled a stroker kit. At the time I was in a hurry because I just scattered the factory engine and the car had 1800 miles on the odo and the warranty was voided because of modifications. Lesson learned I will never do that again.

Nice build list there. I just went through this as you know and have a lot of similar parts. The one thing I'd do different is go to link bar lifters, but I know many use LS7 lifters with no issues.
I hope all goes as smooth for you as it did for me.

I dont really want to rush when it comes to heads. Changing out cylinder heads is not a very hard job so I would rather wait until I either find a deal or get some really good heads.

I just did an LS402 build. I used locktite, torqued the bolts, and blew my build budget right out by 8 dollars by adding that retainer. It is a comp part, available almost anywhere.
I wonder why comp makes and sells it ???

should this cam plate be used on all builds? or do the ls2 or 5.3 not have this issue? I have never used one of these but I have recently seen a few guys having problems with cam bolts backing out.

No I was not being sarcastic I was just trying to see what was in the pic, I thought you were talking about some build where someone used ACE hardware bolts cause that what it looked like at first lol. I didn't even see the retainer plate! Hell I didn't even know they existed! Thanks for the heads up man.
