Default 5.3 LC9 Questions

So I think i did it, confused myself again from reading too much... here goes...

I'm buying a 5.3 LC9 for a 67 Firebird project, I'll be mating it to a GTO 6 Speed (MN12). I have the engine coming with original wiring and ECM (E38), my issue is this, I'd like to delete the AFM and DOD which I understand what needs to be done, however, I'd like to run the VVT but with a better cam, another issue is the 58X and E38 ECM, I cant run a DBC unless i install an TRG-002 Box from Lingenfelter... but again, then I lose the VVT. Can i swap to a regular LS cam, ditch the VVT and still run the converter or retain it?? Any suggestions/advice? Engine is out of a 2011 avalanche Auto, needs to be reflashed/tuned to manual set-up as well.

Also, i started reading up on the E67 ECM's (capable of DBC and DBW).... thoughts?

Thanks!

Well i guess im gonna just delete AFM/DOD/VVT and "convert" to Gen III with an 0411 ECM. Unless someone has thoughts about what i asked above.

Comp Cams sells a VVT cam, but it's more expensive than deleting the VVT and buying a GEN III cam. If you want to go that route, email Comp Cams.

I think I read that the DOD should be removed if running a hot rod. It also doesn't work well with manual transmissions. The DOD removal is more involved since the heads have to be removed.

Finally, I think you can run a DBC with a 58x reluctor. I just bought a Holley DBC throttle body. The Holley Avenger ECM has an LS2 version. It will work with 58x, but it won't work with DBW. The Holley Dominator is needed for DBW.

This is what I've learned so far. Feel free to double check my research and correct me if I'm wrong. I have an LC9 5.3L, and it will eventually go into a 84 firebird.

Just buy the DOD delete kit. You can go with a bigger cam

Thanks for the input. Think I'll just convert back to 24x with all Gen III parts swapped in. Cant wait for these Gen V engines to hit the yards though, im sure that will be a fun time too. Thanks!

Why not keep DBW, delete DOD (apparently doesn't work well with manual trans), and recam with the VVT, No converter needed.
