no crank shaft timing sensor

no crank shaft timing sensor I just got a 96 lt1 engine, & it did not come with a crank shaft timing sensor. Its supposed to be on the crank shaft timing cover on the front bottom right passenger side, but its not there. There not even a place to put it nor a whole where it should have been. Has anyone else come across a problem like this?
Here is a picture of the three types of LT1 front covers. Which one does yours look like?

crank sensor. The '96 up LT1s used it for misfire detection only.
Knock sensors are also different although they look alike.

How would I connect the computer to the crank shaft timing sensor so the check engine light don't register?
