Hello everyone, checking to see if anybody has or has had an issue with a rattle/tapping noise on cold start on Sierra Denali 6.2L. Only last for about 20-30 seconds. Can be heard standing away from vehicle and out of both fender well areas. Truck has 23,000 miles. I use Mobil1 since first service and premium top tier gas.

I have the 6.2L out of a 2007 Escalade and have not experienced the problem you are talking about. Could just be piston slap and when the engine warms up and the pistons expand the noise goes away.
I have a GM 383 crate motor in my 2000 Tahoe. It sounds like a diesel motor when it first starts up. However I have not encountered any problems with it.

@1989GTA not sure if there is any difference between the 07 and current 6.2's other than hp. I used to have 2008 Yukon XL Denali with a 6.2L. I got rid of it after the #2 rocker broke and wind up having to replace the camshaft. Ever since it was repaired it did not sound the same anymore.

I had a 2011 6.2 silverado that did it on cold starts. It ended up being so bad I got GM to warranty a whole long block on the truck. It got totaled not to long after that. But it started at around 6500 miles on that truck. My current 2013 6.2 sierra is starting to do it now that it's getting cold at night. This truck also has the same mileage as when my silverado started doing it.
