Need help, ls3 intake on 02 Camaro and plate system-throttle cable bracket?
I have an 02 Camaro with a ls3 intake and nick Williams 90mm tb. I already had the bracket that bolts to the back of tb for ls3 conversions, but now that I'm putting a 90mm nitrous outlet plate on it I can't use that bracket or mounting location, does anybody know of a bracket for sale to work or possibly have pictures of the bracket u made to make this work with this setup. Thanks
I bought & installed 3 different cable brackets from Texas speed & Scoggin Dickey. Not one of them worked even know they said they would.
I ended up having to Fabricate & make my own throttle cable bracket from a piece of steel bracket that i found at Home Depot.
What a pain in the azz !
Since I can't use the Ls3 map sensor I removed it and plumed the hole for a hose to run to the back to hook to the Ls1 map sensor allowing it to remain in the back and hook up to the connector with out splicing or getting a harness extender. This allowed me to use the bolt hole for the Ls3 map location as bracket holddown.
I went to Home depot and bought a steel L bracket.
I then made measurements to allow the underside to fit around the barbed hose bung I had installed. I then marked the mounting hole for the ls3 and the two intake mounting holes on a stock ls1 throttle bracket and made the proper hole drilling and cut the areas needed. Two bolts and lock nuts later as well as using the stock bolt for the intake and it was in.
I then fabed up a tension bracket to go to the first long bolt that holds the intake to the head. Made a L curve to run below the ls1 bracket and then curve back up into a hook to prevent the bracket from pushing forward when the throttle plate closes.
It's not pretty but it works.
Once I've finished getting the engine in and broken in I'll probably end up taking the mock up brackets out. Paint new steel pieces black and then have them welded to the ls1 throttle bracket and use that so that there is no torsional load possibility in the future.
Making the bracket wasn't hard as long as you have the drill bit size you need (I used a 5/16 drill bit for 1/4 bolts) and a dremel with a cutting wheel to make you cuts it's not hard at all. Took me about 20 minutes to fab up the throttle bracket and the torsional bracket.
