The "best" oil filter you can buy is the Fleetguard LF16104. It's a little taller at 4.58 inches. It has their Stratopore Media. I use it in my LS1 Firebird and my 5.3 truck.

A little hard to find tho, so the next best filter is the Royal Purple followed by the Mobil 1 Extended filters.

After that, K&N, Hastings and Wix/CarQuest are all very good filters. Napa Gold is also decent.

I'd stay away from ACDelco filters and avoid Fram like the plaque.

Now, onto your oil and your oil pressure.

20W-50 oil is too heavy. I wouldn't go heavier than 10W40. Try a lighter grade along with a better filter and see if your PSI improves.

Actually.....he should contact the engine builder and use what the builder recommends.

Although.....I'm thinking along the same lines as you.....and doubts that his builder would actually direct him to use 20W-50 ....

First, there is nothing wrong with ACDelco filters. Their flow and filtration is almost equal to some of the best filters made. Amsoil EA filters & Wix.
2nd. the pressure. The factory gauge is an estimate gauge at best. If you have a built engine, you should have some type of reputable after market gauge to read. All a factory gauge shows is it has some sort of pressure. Whether it has numbers on it or not, it's a guesstimate gauge.

Sorry, ACDelco filters are NOT what they used to be. Today, many of them are no better than a Fram filter with plastic center tubes, media seams that come apart and cardboard end caps. You'll never know if the one you're buying is old style good or new style bad. Don't forget, ACDelco was spun off by GM during the bankruptcy. Pre-bankruptcy, it was AC-Delco.

Step up to a Wix, K&N or Mobil1. There's better but these are always well made quality filters.
