The Best Cam for Cam, Heads, Nitrous Setup
I want to swap the cam out for something else. Is there a right type of Cam for Nitrous? My first nitrous car. I plain on doing a 403 or 404 forging my stock ls2. To spray more nitrous more like 250 to 300 shot. Its not a DD but its a track and street car.
A nitrous camshaft will open the exhaust valve earlier and close it later than its N/A counterpart for the same motor. This is to give more blow down time for spent exhaust gasses trapped in the cylinder to escape. Since there is higher exhaust gas content in a nitrous motor, we have to give it that added time so that power can continue to climb and peak at the same RPM the engine would peak in N/A form.
Normally a nitrous camshaft will also close the intake valve later to help relieve some cylinder pressure and keep the tune up happy along with modifying the intake valve opening event. Modifying the intake open event is done to preserve as much intake charge as possible so that it doesn't short circuit and end up being sucked out the exhaust port during overlap.
I do a lot of nitrous camshafts and have some very fast customers spraying large amounts of nitrous with their LS engines. I'd be happy to help you with a new camshaft for your stroker motor.
Not forging the motor just yet. I was wanting to get the heads and cam setup now with 150 to 175 shot on the stock motor run that for alittle while. How will does a nitrous cam run off the bottle?
