Default Valley cover O rings

Does anyone know the purpose of the O rings on the bottom of the valley cover where they meet the block ? Any harm in leaving them off?
Thanks

You need them. Otherwise that will leave you a major oil/ vacuum leak

I have a Magnuson TVS and the valley plate does not have the vacuum port like the stock one. Since the holes in the block that match up with the O rings go to the lifter bores, (not all), I was trying to figure out the function?

Sorry, I was speaking about knock sensor o ring seals on ls1/ls6 style covers. I should have paid better attention to the gen 4 title

Sense I misspoke I feel obligated to help lol. I searched and found this:

"You noticed when you pulled the valley cover there are 'towers', and they are probably drilled. These lead to the lifters. Further machining would have allowed the block for use as an AFM engine, most blocks, whether used for AFM or not, recieved at a minimum, the towers during casting and the holes drilled during the machining process, regardless of it's intended use. Of course, the vette doesn't use AFM but the towers and holes are still there, the "O" rings seal the posts against an internal oil leak, doubt it, leave the O rings out and watch your oil pressure.

You cab tap and plug the towers if you'd like"
