THere is a modified version of the SD508 that will take the constant high RPMs that these LS engine like to rev to. This is what the tech or sales guy (I forget which) from Vintage Air told me when I was ordering my bros' VA system for his 70 Camaro w/LS swap.(low mount)

The R4 is much more compact than the Sanden.

The Sanden model number SD5H14 is universal, and readily available for around $140.

The R4 comes as AC DELCO 15-20227 for about $230, or the Holley 199-100 for about $280.

I am considering switching from sanden with Kwik AC bracket to R4 with the Holley bracket for space savings.

Does anyone know which compressor is more robust?

As for the high RPM, and WOT, Holley recommends a window switch should be used to disconnect the compressor from the system temporarily.

Even with the OBD1 LT1 pcms the AC could be shut off at a programmable throttle position. Betting the same is possible on LS motors.

That is true. The ls ecu will control the ac with wot and high rpm shut off.

As noted on several forums (Turbo Buick.com, Oldspower.com and Montecarloss.com), R4 compressors leak and throw oil. I have gone through 3 on my Olds. The current one is only 4 years old and it already leaks oil and refrigerant. I still run R12 and have to recharge every season. I am switching to a Sanden.
