Default Water Pump Outlet ? ? ?

I've got several later model factory (Gen IV) pumps, I went to swap the t'stat housing over on one and the holes are off by 1/16". One has bolt spacing of 3.00" and the other 3.062" I tried an early housing and the guts were too big to fit into the pump. Thought there was only two styles, the early one-piece and the late neck with separate stat? I'll prolly just drill the holes oversize, but what's the deal?

I know trucks are different from f-body outlets. Pattern and bolt size are both different,, I think.

Yeas, they changed the pattern and thermostat from the earlier styles to the LS3. I bought a Mr. Gasket chrome one and slotted the holes slightly. The thermostat didn't fit either, so I machined it bigger by about .125" on the diameter if I recall. Everything works fine now.

Some of this stuff really makes you scratch your head on why GM did this. No wonder cars cost so much when they have to redesign everything including a stupid thermostat housing.

Both my "new" style pumps have the flat (short) pulley, one has the outlet on the DR side while the other is on the PASS side. The 'stat physically fits both pumps OK except for the bolt pattern. I'll be hogging out the housing holes with a carbide burr...

Measuring from the housing face to the internal 'stat register, this pump is 1.680" while the other pump is 1.935" deep. My 'stat sticks out 5/16" or so making it definitely wrong for this pump. The other pump looks similar except the water inlet is on the DR side. Anybody know what this pump fits? Looks like it has "MVO" cast into it...

If I got this right, it looks to be a Z06 pump from a 08 model. The port looks to be in the correct location and the depth of the thermostat is different. 09 and newer all used the same.

I think you're right! RockAuto shows the 2007 'stat to be 1.84" long and the later '09+ 'stats to be 2.23" long. Each 'stat in it's appropriate pump would give way less preload than what I'm getting.

Thanks!
