Oil Priming rig
Hi All,
Made my oil primer today, all of $15 in it and that's all in the adapter for the block port. Found that on E-Bay, but felt the need to hog it out from 1/4" NPT to 3/8" NPT. Got a cast-off small block Chevy oil pump from the junk bin at the local machine shop for free and made the handle from 1/4" aluminum plate. The SBC pump passage was 0.497", so I used a 15/32" drill bit to jig it in alignment on the drillpress with a machinist vise, then swapped that bit for a 9/16" and went about 3/4" deep. Tapped it for 3/8" NPT, ran a nipple into the port, and used a scrap piece of heater hose to connect the two. Dumped 6 QTs of Castrol 10w30 in an old pool chemical bucket and started pumping with a 400 RPM drill motor. Saw 47# oil pressure on the pan rail fitting. The (unknown) E-Bay dipstick and tube were spot-on at the full mark, but my oil level sensor never moved even though it bench-tested OK. Maybe a few "bumps" of movement will make it track...

Never ceases to Amaze me how some can spend Thousands,
Multiple Thousands of Dollar$ and countless Hours building their
Engine and dry start/Prime their Engines with the starter.
