LS1 Swap Question! Please Share your Knowedge! Hello everyone! I have an 124,xXX mile Ls1 and a rebuilt Automatic 4L60e out of my 1998 SS Camaro I got Tboned and now in need of a roller! My question is would I be able to use my LS1/tranny/harness and ECU in any roller from a 1998 to a 2002 Camaro or Trans Am? Basically Plug in and Go . Without any modifications or problems? Please give me advice so I know where to go from here. This will be my first Swap so any pointers or advice would be Great! Thank you everyone!
The only foreseeable issue is the year model 98, the harness and ecm is only compatible with a 98. 99+ are interchangeable amongst themselves. the engine harness can be repinned to be compatible with 99+ ecms though. though since you have all of your 98 stuff intact that is kind of useless info in your case
as long as you take all of your stuff and put it in the other car I dont think there will be an issue though I seem to remember something about the gauge cluster being unique to the 98 year as well.
Mechanically no problems super easy swap.
Electronically not difficult there are just somethings you need to be aware of, as it will all connect to the same but some minor differences between the 98 cars and 99+ cars exist in the wiring.
I seem to remember a thread popping up similar to this not long ago though where the person just took his engine harness and ecm from a 98 and put it in a newer fbody and had no issues. so hopefully someone will chime in and confirm
