6l80/6l90 shifter options
just wondering what the best shifter option is for an ly6 6l90 swap in an old truck? I can't find much for aftermarket options. Am in better off to sell the 6'speednand try find a 4l80e which has nice traditional style shifter?

6l80-90 don't have physical positions on the shifter for each gear. They only have prndm/s. M/S is manual-sport mode. To use the manual mode you need to set up a tapshift set of buttons. I haven't done this my self but I have heard two things one it can be done with resistors straight to the trans with a corvette file in the Tcm or two that it always requires a bcm to be installed. Anyway a power glide shifter will have all the gear positions you need for a 6l. My two cents says get rid of the 6l80 and get a 4l80. The 6l are temperamental and weak in my experience. Someone will jump on here and say you just don't know how to tune one and that's why you don't like it but after 7 transmission rebuilds from big time builders and three don't worry I can make it work tuners I got fed up built a 4l80 with ebay parts and a Jake shoe valvebody kit and haven't had an issue since. Rant over.
