Default LS621 bell housing question

I'm new to the forum. Converting my '64 Skylark from a 455 to an LS376/515. I'm using the American Powertrain LS621 bell housing to go with the TKO600 currently in the car. The flywheel I'm using is a Chevrolet Performance 12571611. My understanding is the LS621 bell is manufactured to accommodate the fact that the LS crank flange is .400 closer to the block than a traditional SBC/BBC. This means I won't have to go with the .400 thicker flywheel. At least that's what AP tech support says. Is this correct? At this time the motor is in transit so I can't do a mock up or take measurements. Thanks.

Bill,

I used a 621 bell with a LS7 flywheel and clutch with my Richmond 6 speed (all relevant dimensions are the same as a TKO).

Look at my GTO build thread where I have more details. There is also a long thread about this topic in the Conversion section. Just do a search.

"Drivetrain" companies that don't build their own boxes are smiles and unicorns, a lot of times. Both of which, they invented. just ask Shafi.

The 621 requires nothing to work behind the LS truck flywheel or car flywheel except an extended pilot bearing and proper length throw out bearing, assuming mech. linkage. Neither of those items allows for the trans. to "work with the LS crank / flywheel." And shortening the depth of a 621 would screw with fork geometry.

Ask for the depth. And if it's the same as any 621 repop, ask why they have a different PN for the one under the SBC/BBC 4/5speeds section.
