Default No Oil Pressure

About a year ago I spun a bearing on my 07 Trailblazer SS AWD. I recently replaced the shortblock with a brand new one and installed the heads and everything else (with new seals and gaskets of course) onto the new engine. Threw it back in the car and wired up and everything. I am trying to prime the engine with oil by pulling the plug wires and unplugging the fuel injector connectors. I tried this maybe 10 times but got no oil pressure. I am using 6qts or royal purple break in oil if that means anything. Can someone help me out? Need oil pressure before I can start the engine up. Thank you

Remove the spark plugs so that the engine can crank easier. IIRC, my 150K miles used LM7 engine blew almost 40 PSI cold vigorously cranking on a good battery before I started it. This was using an Autometer oil pressure gauge with the hollow plastic tube connected to the port where the oil pressure sending unit would normally go.

Does keeping the sparkplugs in make a vacuum in the combustion chamber? I will try that and see if it works

Not so much that as PRESSURE in the chamber, making a lot more work for the starter. Think about it....

that would be silly when you've already been told to remove the plugs to make cranking easier and take any load off the engine.

On a fresh bottom end I find it more efficient to fill the oil pump by removing the front galley plug and funneling oil in there. Melling has a pretty good video on how to do this. The one issue with this is the brackets, headers and accessories can be in the way if you don’t plan this out during the re-install.

If you’re really concerned, you can pressure-lube at this same galley before the initial start too.
