Default LS2/L92 valley cover

Hi guys I just recently purchased an LS2 short motor 58x crank and no DOD. Now the seller took the valley cover not known to me as I had it shipped to me and he said it was being sold "as is in photo" but he removed the valley cover before shipping it to me.

The rest of the engine is in great condition, cylinders are perfect, still have hone marks and turns over smoothely with no noticeable faults. I'm going to build this one as a n/a engine with my Daytona prototype small bore ls7 heads.

My question is, I need a valley cover and do I bother with the more expensive GM valley cover which has the extra breather on it which should vent the crankcase better, or get the cheaper ls2/3 style cover without the breather tube.

I've always ran ls1's and just vented to atmo from both sides of the valve covers and haven't had any issues, but I'm thinking an extra breather for the crankcase can't hurt? Should be beneficial? I also have proform valve covers I'm going to run on this engine so I now have one less breather tube now than i did with the stock valve covers. Appreciate your thoughts.

Why not run the LS6 style cover with the PCV in it?

If you're going to run breathers in each valve cover, then a sealed valley cover without the tube and baffle underneath is fine.

If you don't want the "oil fumes/smell" inside the car, then run a valley cover with the tube and baffle underneath so you can run a closed PCV system with a catch can like a stock LS2.

Gen III valley covers do not work on Gen IV blocks.

Run one of these with a catch can if you want. I have one for mine. It's an LS3 Valley cover. It's gen 4 with the integrated PCV baffle like the LS6.

You can get the plain one without PCV for about 1/2 that if you want.

That one with the pcv, is what this engine originally had on it. Anyway, good news the seller is going to send it to me. He said he only removed it to sit the block upside down on the pallet for shipping and he forgot to put it on the pallet when he shipped me the engine. So all is good, I should have it here soon.
