Default Thoughts on shaving the block?

I have a tight clearance area. Probably fine unless I land a jump while the engine is torqued over (likely to cause other bigger issues). But I'd like more space if I can. Has anyone had experience shaving the block? Any reasons not to?

Personally I can’t see why you couldn’t shave that part off

I don't see any issue at all cutting if off. It isn't going to effect rigidity of the block.

I have cut many of these blocks to fit them in tube-frame cars...

Just be mindful of the oil passage that is near by.
This is also a good time to remove any stress risers and casting flash (although these blocks are pretty good as is).

What tool would you recommend for cutting that part off? I was thinking a sawzall cutting right along that line.

Any tips for removing stress risers and casting flash? This is the first I've heard of doing that.

Thinking about it some more. A flap wheel might be gentler and not create any edges that could stress. Thoughts?

I personally pre-heat the cylinder blocks in large ovens intended for powder-coating...

and then cut-off what I need to with different sized pneumatic cut-off wheels.
I dess/ finish those areas of the cylinder block with a die-grinder, and then a wet-stone.

I run over any casting flash with a grinder, then file most sharp edges. If nothing else it saves me cut up hands later while installing or servicing it.
