Oil pan fitment issues.on 6.0 build If I drop the oil pan on without the gasket, shouldn't it sit all the way down on the block? Windage tray and pick up tube is installed. The pan is the dorman stock replacement. I bought it as a 5 qt pan thinking the 6th quart was throughout the motor
Yes, pan should lay on the rails without gasket. You likely have an issue with pickup fitment. Put some clay on the bottom of the pickup and set the pan on with light pressure. Will tell the tale.
Best to always get a pickup with pan. Pickups and different pans don’t play nice together. These pickups are long and fitable, but you’ll want to bend on the pickup tube, or the pickup tube mounting bracket, off the engine. This will reduce risk of you messing up the o-ring. Use the clay to determine where the pickup is in relation to the pan. You’ll want .250” from pickup to pan ideally for a street engine.
