I'm in the process of installing an aftermarket camshaft.
At the step where I line up the marks on the sprocket and crank gear.....is this normal from the factory?
Photo is looking straight down from the camshaft bolt.
Take the oil pump off and take a photo from the front. I bet it’s not off. The dots are lined up but off slightly. If you were to actually make it a tooth off they wouldn’t line up or be close to it.
That is as close as they get to lining up.
The aftermarket cam going in is +3 anyway and I need to swap out the sprocket for a 3-bolt, so it's not worth any additional work to investigate. I was just asking for my own knowledge.

I saw the small hash mark on the body of the sprocket and ignored the indent on the tooth. Apologies.
I even thought to myself, "wow that must be hard to see when it isn't fresh and clean like this"....
