I'm aware with the LS3 swap that some sensors move around, but they are the same sensors (outlined here ). It appears that once you deal with the ECM tuning and a few wiring harness, the LS3 swap itself is pretty straightforward (well as much any any engine swap can be).
To be clear, this isn't going to have a massive cam in it - this is basically a stock C6 430HP 6.2.
So - if we go back to the factory tune - take the adaptor harness off the fuel injectors/ throttle body, and go back to the factory 'manifold package'. Where does this go wrong?
Not trying to fight here, just want to understand.
It goes wrong when you try to run a 6.2l engine with completely different heads and cam on a 5.7l tune. You can't just swap tunes like swapping carburetors and call it "close enough".

If you dialed in the tune to the parts combo on the setup, and kept track of what tune was for what setup, it works. I know guys that have done it. I've even done it myself when I swapped between a TH350 and a T56 in my SS years ago.

But that was far less complicated than what's going on here.

That sucks they don’t exempt cars 20 years and older, I would have assumed they did.

The whole problem is he can't dial in the "inspection" tune. He is talking about trying to run that combo on the bone stock factory unmodified ls6 tune to not set off any software flags when they plug in to it. That is not going to work.

Here's the Cali (and all other states like it) situation in a nutshell-
You can do any mod you want IF-
1) It has a CARB exemption, OR-
2) It is not visible or audible to the naked eye and ear (Any hardware mods or any non loping cam are OK. See #3 below), AND-
3) it will run OK with a stock untouched tune, because they WILL know if you touch the tune.
Oher than all the above, it's wide open.... LOL

That's why I'm saying even if this guy wanted to have a modded tune in it for the setup and flash in the stock one, they will know it's been touched.

That's how it goes in that state. Be less complicated to move out.

I don't understand what all the fuss is about honestly you guys seriously like I don't even know where to begin, All the op needs is an LS3 short block with a 24 crank relector on it that's it. He should just reuse his 243 heads and the same ls6 cam that is already in there This is a no-brainer

IF he's in a state with Cali-style smog testing, he won't be able to tune it right.
I doubt there is a stock tune that will accommodate a 6.2 with LS6 cam and top end.
And the OBDII smog station computer will catch any non-stock ECM hiccups.

It will run just fine on the stock tune The stock ls6 program is pretty darn good and it's also a stick with an 800 rpm idle stock so It would run even better with a gt 2-3 or a stock ls7 Cam wont upset the computer at all. Adding displacement while keeping the cam timing and the top end of the motor the same ensures a solid power increase across the ENTIRE rpm range with a SMOOTHER idle as you've increased port velocity everywhere

Your idea of "running fine" is obviously quite different than mine.

The op wants to improve his car without altering his stock tune. Yes, I agree This is impossible so let's not spend a fortune on unneeded billet parts and just get what's needed to get the job done.

if he just puts a bigger short block in it and keeps the compression close to what it was it should run and drive and pass inspection without setting any lights. Plenty of boners out there replace swap their 4.8/5.3 trucks with Lq4 and drive it around without telling anybody but This is not a guarantee, I don't know how far off the fuel trims will be but It shouldn't have any drivability problems. Sure the catalytic converters are going to get hotter pushing it out in the higher revs so keep an eye on the temps like I said this is impossible but This is just my my beliefs turned to facts based on my own experience building and tuning stuff. Are the fuel trims going to be off? You bet they are, but it's still going to be a hell of a lot better than whatever adapter plate hobble cobbled mess he's able to put together out of all those useless however, shiny and expensive parts. Remember whatever he puts together still has to blow through the same stupid catalytic converters so Spend far less money and build a really nice short block he'll still have plenty of money for tuning software and maybe a few books. No need to reinvent the wheel here

he can load his own program later where he's fixed his ve pe vital air flow tables and maybe even the timing a little bit but not too much. Got to watch those temps with the restrictive exhaust but it's not going to pollute any worse than stock and I bet the gas mileage is damn close

You fail at reading. The point is that is a state that will know even if you tune the PCM and fail the inspection.

Again, moving out is simpler.
