Default Starter solenoid on a L92

So my question is are the aftermarket starter solenoids any better than the one I can get from NAPA or maybe aftermarket like Power Master?
The reason I ask is last week I was running some errands in 80 Camaro with a L92 swap and I went to start it the starter spun but didn't engage the flex plate. Hit the starter a few times and it did start. Got it home and it did the same thing. I have headers. I have the clip on shield with DEI insulation on the solenoid.
Got maybe 500 miles on the swap.
The starter came with the L92 but I switched out the solenoid for the type that has bolt on terminals instead of round plug style from a local starter repair shop.

Yes I have plenty of radiator capacity and a quality Spal fan. No indication of any over heating. Runs at 180 degrees going down the road. Fan comes on at 195 and off at 185.
