Default LS2 engine run with out oil

Is there any sensor on these motors that would shut it down if the engine ran low on oil? I am looking at a wrecked GTO with an LS2 that hit a tree sideways. The oil pan is cracked, so I don't know if the engine ran without oil or was shut down right away.
If there is no such sensor, would taking off the rod caps and checking the bearings be the only way to tell if the engine sustained damage?

There's a low oil level sensor, but nothing that would shut down the motor. The motor would need to be disassembled for inspection.
