Question Torquing balancer bolt on an auto trans car

What method do you guys use to stop the engine from spinning so the balancer bolt can be tightened to spec without the engine turning.

Auto trans car so there is no locking it into a gear here. I know there's a J-tool to lock the flywheel, but I was looking for alternatives.

I use the Kentmoore flywheel locking tool specifically for the LS engine. It bolts in place of the starter and works perfect. You can get them on ebay at a pretty good price.

If you're still using the stock crank pulley then you can take a large screwdriver or large drift and slide it through the "spokes" of the pulley and allow it to come in contact with a sturdy part of the front of the engine to hold the screwdriver or drift in place. Got my crank pulley torqued down a bit over the factory torque spec and this method worked just fine.

Nope, on an SLP underdrive pulley now, or about to be.

The impact wrench idea scares me. I keep thinking that I'll snap the bolt.

I went looking for the Kent Moore tool, but $60 seems way steep for what it is.

I guess I just need to decide and do it. Thanks for the suggestions.

I used the impact on my stock bolt. youd have to really hammer on it to break it off. When I installed my arp i had someone hold the motor with a prybar on the converter tabs while I torqued it down.
